I said in a chair while Slim made some coffee.
"- Who did this Lenny", Slim asked.
Slim answered the call.
I have to go to the administrative's office for five minutes.
Now I wanted to live Santa Rosita as fast as possible.
Quickly I leant across his desk and opened the drawer.
He started to ask me some more questions.

Человече 26.04.2015 14:51

That's all for today. The lesson is over. See you tomorrow.

Шапокляк 26.04.2015 14:53

243-Человече > да- ничего неправильного не вижу

Шапокляк 26.04.2015 14:56

I said in a chair while Slim made some coffee- sat,
но лучше I was sitting in the chair while Slim was making coffee ( мне так кажется, но не поручусь)

Человече 26.04.2015 15:37

Oh, yes of course, It was my misprint. - sat instead said

Человече 26.04.2015 15:43

but this is from the ebook - L.A. Winners
http://www.macmillanenglish.com/products/macmillan-readers-l-a-winners-elementary-pack/

so let's it as in original text. Yes, I think so, that Past progressive would be better, because he was sitting in a chair, while Slim was making coffee.

OK, Never mind. Let's it be so.

Человече 26.04.2015 19:48

255-Шапокляк > OK. Thanks.

Человече 26.04.2015 19:59

256-Шапокляк > Все таки стало интересно, с точки зрения грамматики и я скопировал оригинальный текст

I went with Slim to his office by the gateway. I sat in a chair while Slim made some coffee. He started to ask me some more questions.
Suddenly, the phone rang. Slim answered the call. Then he put the phone down.

Может быть здесь простое прошедшее время, т.к идет просто описание фактов в прошедшем времени?

Человече 26.04.2015 20:09

Хотя по правилам грамматики например С.И. Блинова Практика Английского языка. Сборник упражнений по грамматике - The Past Continuous (Progresive) употребляется для выражения:
3. Нескольких длительных действий, происходящих одновременно: While she was cooking dinner, Ann was laying the table.
A вот у А.А.Иониной Английская грамматика Теория и практика: Действия в процессе в придаточных предложениях с союзом While. В главном предложении, как правило, употребляется Past Simple.
She watched TV while the children were playing in the garden. While Nancy was cooking dinner, her husband read the letter.

Человече 26.04.2015 20:24

А вот у Murphy Essential Grammar in use - говорится, что длительное действие должно было начаться еще до возникновения второго действия (Past Simple).
What happened? The phone rang. What was Jack doing when the phone rang? He was reading a book.
What did he do when the phone rang?
He stopped reading and answered the phone.
Jack began reading before the phone rang.
So: When the phone rang, he was reading.

В нашем примере: I was sitting in a chair while Slim went in and started making coffee.
Т.е поскольку два длительных действия совершаются в одно и тоже время одновременно, то получается, что идет просто констатация фактов в прошлом.

Человече 26.04.2015 20:34

У Murphy English grammar in use - это правило закрепляется:
We use the past continuous to say that somebody was in the middle of doing something at a certain time. The action or situation had already started before this time but had not finished.

В нашем же случае: Они вошли вместе, он присел в кресло, а Slim пошел готовить кофе.

Шапокляк 27.04.2015 00:08

259-Человече >ну да-простое

Человече 27.04.2015 08:30

только не понятно, как к Блиновой относиться в этом случае: 260-Человече >3. Нескольких длительных действий, происходящих одновременно: While she was cooking dinner, Ann was laying the table.
у Murphy - на этот случай ничего не написано.

Good morning, friends. Let's begin our new lesson.
In this lesson we'll repeat a few difficult expressions or sentences from the previous lesson. And repeat some sentences, we have learnt before.

Человече 27.04.2015 08:42

What is going to be like? What was it going to be like?
Is it going to rain? Was it going to rain?
Where were we going? Where are we going?
Where were you going? Where are you going?

What are you going to sell? What are you going to buy?
Which one are you going to sell? Which one are you going to buy?
What else are you going to buy?
OK, no problem. Thanks for your shopping here.

It's not going to be interesting. It was not going to be interesting.

They are not going to travel by aircraft.
The students weren't going to travel by train.

The he put the phone down.
Quickly I leaned across his desk and open the drawer.
Lie - lay - lain - lying.
lay - laid - laid - laying.

There were lots of yellow and blue passes in the drawer.
I took a blue pass and I put it in my pocket.
I took a blue pass and I put it into my pocket.
as soon as possible; as fast as possible.

Человече 27.04.2015 11:14
